“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” – Aristotle

In the early Arizona morning I walk my heart-shaped labyrinth and meditate with the sound of gold finches and cactus wrens. The sun is just coming up and lighting my path surrounded by Palo Verde and Mesquite trees. I cherish this precious quietude before my day begins. It is the perfect way to wake up my senses, create an awareness of openness and set my intention for the new day.

How do you start your day? Do you rush out of bed after pushing the snooze button a few times and leave no time for breakfast? You don’t need a labyrinth to create your own routine for starting your day. All you need is a willingness to set aside 10-15 minutes first thing in the morning that allows you be grateful, take stock in your life or just prepare to make the day your best one yet.

At Chopra.com Melissa Eisler suggests these 10 steps to incorporate into a morning routine.

• Stay Unplugged From Tech
• Hydrate
• Practice Optimism and Gratitude
• Make Your Bed
• Meditate
• Exercise
• Put Yourself Together
• Eat A Healthy Breakfast

Melissa says, “When you form healthy habitual behaviors for the morning, you set your day up for success. Whether you are aware of them or not, you operate under habits (both good and bad) all the time—they are an integral part of your daily existence.”

What better way to make sure self care is a priority each day, by beginning your day with a dose of it.

I’d love to hear how you begin your day. Comment below to share your morning routine and how it sets your day up for success.
